Without being so glued to my phone/social media anymore, I've found more time to consume quality media. I wanted to write about my favorites lately!
Cold Sweat by DreorCaul
Cold Sweat is an esoteric horror webcomic featuring a two lesbian outcasts, a hunter and a vampire, dealing with the world and the demons in it. The early-comic art has an Ivan Bilbin feel, while DreorCaul's recent work has an expressive dark fantasy comic quality. The leads, Drasil and Mina, are quirky and charming. Please be warned that there are graphic depictions of homophobia, body horror, blood, etc.! It hasn't had any updates for a few months, so I shall patiently wait...
Undir Köldum Norðurljósum by Kælan Mikla
I recently fixed up my dad's iPod classic from 2006 to be more intentional when listening to music. I realized having access to Spotify erased moments of solitude throughout my day, and I would like to prioritize walking with only my thoughts. I also want to support art I enjoy, which Bandcamp is very helpful for. One of the first albums I bought for the iPod was "Undir Köldum Norðurljósum" ("Under Cold Northern Lights"). I first discovered the album through the song Sólstöður-- ironically, Spotify probably recommended it. I like Kælan Mikla because it falls into the "goth-folk" umbrella, as their lyrics often reference the stories and atmosphere of Iceland. Their synths are hauntingly beautiful, and every song has such a unique melody. It's hard to pick a favorite track, but Óskasteinar's key changes in particular scratch my brain. I want to start carrying around my iPod and look like a major hipster!!!
Judas Iscariot (2025), dir. Charles Kugler
The furry god(s) have blessed us again with peak anthro art! Now the furry Bible can be real. I fell in love with the trailer's gorgeous color compositions and the animal designs of the Disciples. I need the "furry Jesus loves you" sticker in my e-reader case now!
Sunset Phoenix by NeverDraws
Sunset Phoenix is officially back as of yesterday!!! My friend recommended this Webtoon to me since they know I like yuri, and I'm obsessed. It has a good mystery, fun action, and interesting characters. I so badly want to know what Emilia's whole deal is.
The Beast of Hadingley Hill by Horatio Marissa
Unfortunately, The Beast of Hadingley Hill is not back from hiatus yet. This is also a top tier yuri Webtoon, according to my friend (and now also me). This webtoon has a large cast of characters, which makes the world feel rich and diverse. I liked that the story demonstrates the ways in which the central characters develop intimacy beyond romantic love, while still keeping the possibility of a romantic plotline open. Although many bad things go down, the fairytale tone has a cozy, even nostalgic feel.
Baldur's Gate 3
I know I'm super late to the party!!! Baldur's Gate recently dropped their last content patch, and I just now bought the game! Anyways... I'm only a few hours in, but the game is as amazing as people have said. I think soundtracks are what I love most about playing video games. They add such a special atmosphere, and "The Power" from Baldur's Gate 3 has been one of my favorite songs for a while.
I love God of War 4 and Ragnarök for the same reason-- the soundtracks make the characters and worlds larger than life!
